"–" (–) should be used for ranges such as measurements ("five–six meters") and periods in time ("1984–2003"), whereas "—" (—) make breaks in the text ("the old man was — despite his age — still healthy"). — Pladask 10:51, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Hey, it's me again. I was looking through the Pekinel sisters article and I noticed that all the countries they've had concerts in are linked. That's quite a lot of links which are not completely relevant to the article. I mean, when I click on 'What links here' on the, for example, Italy page, I'm probably not looking for the Pekinel sisters, right? What's your opinion on that? --Missmarple 07:37, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Bourree

You moved Bourée and Bourrée to Bourree in late July. FYI unfortunately, Bourrée was the correct spelling according to the Webster and Britannica Online, not to mention the original French spelling. Cat speedy

"Category:Mozart symphonies - The contents have been moved to Category:Symphonies by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to match the naming scheme." - there was some talk on CSD whether this should be a speedy deletion criterion. Hi Pladask! Thanks for the note. Unfortunately I don't have a full biography of Horowitz, and I haven't read one either. I was using the online Grove article ([1], but it requires a subscription) which is fairly detailed; in addition to the birthplace issue, it explains the birthdate issue, which is already handled correctly in the Wiki article. Fundamentals of Piano Practice

Hey Pladask, I saw you started Fundamentals of Piano Practice a couple of years ago and it was deleted, do you have any saved archives of the entry by coincidence?

Either case, I presume this is about Chuan C. Chang's concept; he's started a renewed website and all - I sincerely think we can give this an interesting NPOV article because, for what it's worth, if there is any purpose behind Chang's book, it is not commercial, regardless of what the other votes claimed mirroring on the article. Furthermore, the entry might become a kind of survey on the website, which is constantly evolving.

Do you think it's possible?

First of all, thanks a lot for noticing this! I was very disappointed when I saw the article was deleted in IMHO a very rushed and ignorant fashion. No one even answered my attempts to defend the entry. Anyway, the answer to your question is yes! I saved a copy in my user namespace when I saw it was nominated for deletion. It's not much of an article yet, but I'd love to see a new article grow without being voted down again. I'm re-adding a stripped version of the entry at Fundamentals of Piano Practice right now. No problem, count me in to make improvements. What we'll do, in principio, is make sure that the practice is considered a very a priori alternative method collection instead of a discipline that considers itself better than the rest. Chang's position is more stable than one might think because he's a prolific and controversial science authority and wrote all his findings through looking and searching. That's an aspect we have to show the readers.

It was proposed for deletion by another editor and the proposal went unobjected for a week. Rachmaninof Third Concerto

Hi. I've updated your edit to the above article. The legend goes that Rachmaninoff never played his Third Concerto again after hearing Horowitz play it. That performance, took place in Steinway's basement in 1928. The composer accompanied Horowitz on the second piano. I've never seen a reliable source that Rachmaninoff never played the work again in public (on the other hand, I've never seen a reliable source that refutes it), he certainly recorded it in 1939.THD3 (talk) 15:27, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
